Publication Date: 2026-07-02 According to the latest requirements of CSA W59-2024, personnel engaged in non-destructive testing (NDT) are required to hold valid qualification under CAN/CGSB-48.9712.
To support Chinese enterprises and NDT professionals in meeting Canadian compliance requirements, and to further align with Canadian project specifications while enhancing competitiveness in the North American market, Shanghai Allmark has officially partnered with the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) to launch the CAN/CGSB-48.9712 NDT Personnel Certification Service.
At present, application consultation and pre-qualification review for CAN/CGSB-48.9712 certification in China have officially commenced. The program is open to NDT professionals in China and supports Chinese-language examinations, providing a more accessible pathway for Chinese candidates to obtain internationally recognized Canadian certification.
Relationship Between CSA W59 and CAN/CGSB-48.9712
There is often confusion between these two standards among enterprises. In simple terms:
CSA W59 is the Canadian standard for welded steel construction.
CAN/CGSB-48.9712 is the Canadian standard for qualification and certification of NDT personnel.
CSA W59 defines the requirements for fabrication and inspection of welded structures, whereas CAN/CGSB-48.9712 defines the qualification requirements for personnel performing non-destructive testing activities.
CAN/CGSB-48.9712 is a Canadian national standard for NDT personnel certification, developed based on the internationally recognized ISO 9712 framework. The certification is implemented and administered by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) as the authorized certification body.
Who Should Pay Attention?
CAN/CGSB-48.9712 applies to manufacturing enterprises, inspection companies, and NDT personnel involved in North American projects.
