CSA W47.1 Certification of companies for fusion welding of steel
Scope
Applies to steel structure enterprises using fusion welding processes. Enterprises are classified into three divisions based on their welding engineer availability. Shanghai Allmark, as CWB's representative, conducts practical skill tests for welders and operators, written exams for welding supervisors, and ensures welding procedures receive CWB approval.
[Certification Process]
1. Document Submission
Enterprises must submit required documents, including records of welding supervisor/engineer assessments and CSA standard training.
2. Welding Supervisor Qualification
Enterprises must employ qualified welding supervisors capable of:
Reading and interpreting technical drawings
Correctly interpreting welding symbols
Identifying welding defects and implementing quality control
Operating relevant welding equipment
Supervisors must pass a written exam administered by Shanghai Allmark.
3. Welding Engineer Appointment
Division 1 and 2 enterprises must appoint at least one welding engineer to provide technical support and ensure compliance with standard requirements.
4. WPS/WPDS Preparation and Submission
All companies must prepare:
Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) for each welding method.
Welding Procedure Data Sheets (WPDS) for each joint type.
All documents require CWB review and approval. Shanghai Allmark provides expert guidance throughout this process.
5. Welder Qualification Testing
Shanghai Allmark conducts practical tests for welders, operators, and tack welders according to CSA standards. Certified personnel receive CWB qualifications.
6. CWB Audit and Inspection
CWB-authorized representatives conduct periodic audits including:
Practical welder testing
Welding procedure qualification
Quality system review
Successful enterprises receive company certificates, while individuals obtain welder and supervisor certifications. Certified enterprises may reference CWB certification in their materials.
