CSA W47.2 Certification of companies for fusion welding of aluminum

Scope

CSA W47.2 applies to enterprises using fusion welding processes for aluminum structures. Shanghai Allmark, representing CWB, conducts practical skill tests for welders and operators, written theoretical exams for welding supervisors, and ensures welding procedures receive CWB approval.

[Certification Process]

1. Document Submission

Enterprises must submit relevant documents to support the certification process, including records of welding supervisor/engineer assessments and CSA standard training.

2. Welding Supervisor Qualification

Enterprises must employ qualified welding supervisors capable of interpreting drawings, welding symbols, and identifying defects. Supervisors must pass a written exam administered by Shanghai Allmark, CWB's exclusive authorized agency in China.

3. Appointment of Welding Engineer

Division 1 and 2 enterprises must appoint at least one welding engineer to ensure compliance with CSA W47.2 standards.

4. WPS/WPDS Submission

All companies must prepare Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Welding Procedure Data Sheets (WPDS) for each joint, subject to CWB approval. Shanghai Allmark provides expert guidance tailored to client needs.

5. Welder Qualification

Shanghai Allmark conducts tests for welders, operators, and tack welders per CSA standards. Certified personnel receive CWB qualifications.

6. CWB Audit and Inspection

CWB-authorized representatives perform periodic audits, including practical welder tests, procedure qualifications, and quality system reviews. Upon approval, enterprises and individuals receive company certificates, welder certifications, and welding supervisor credentials. Certified enterprises may reference CWB certification in their materials.

Based on welding engineer availability, enterprises are classified into:

• Division 1: Requires at least one full-time welding engineer.

• Division 2: Requires at least one part-time welding engineer.

• Division 3: No welding engineer required.
