CSA W55.3

CSA W55.3 Certification of companies for resistance welding of steel and aluminum

Scope

CSA W55.3 certification applies to resistance welding enterprises using steel or aluminum as base materials. This certification may be applied concurrently with CSA W47.1 (Steel Structure Certification) or CSA W47.2 (Aluminum Structure Certification). Enterprises are classified into three divisions based on their welding engineer staffing.

[Certification Requirements]

  1. Submission of formal certification application.

  2. Qualification requirements for welding personnel.

  3. Preparation of welding procedures.

  4. Compliance with welding quality management system requirements.

[Welding Processes]

  • CSA W55.3 certification covers one or more of the following processes:

  • RSW (Resistance Spot Welding): Uses electrode pressure and current to form weld points at contact surfaces.

  • RSEW (Resistance Seam Welding): Electrodes continuously roll to form sealed welds for overlapping seams.

  • PW (Projection Welding): Localized welding at projection points on base materials, commonly used for fastening nuts and bolts.

  • FW (Flash Welding): Joins ends through heating and pressure, typically for pipes and profiles.

  • UW (Upset Welding): Achieves end-face welding through heating and mechanical pressure.
